I blogged while in Korea and found it quite cathartic and fun--and managed to get a few dedicated readers. Now that I'm a bit more 'seasoned', I'd like this blog to be about as fun to read and insightful...but instead of exposing interesting facets of Korea, I'll be uncovering facts and connections in the world of alternative investments.
Alternatives include private equity, private and public investments in real estate, commodities, derivatives of types, hedge funds and alt-alt (alternative alternatives, if you can imagine such a thing) such as cat(astrophe) bonds, timber & timberlands, shipping funds, wine and art funds and basically anything that is not Plain Jane, long-only stock and bond investments.
I'll also look into topics that affect both traditional and alternative investments: tail risk, credit, inflation/deflation, manager due diligence, pension fund funding ratios, moral hazard and other topical areas of interest.
You'll also see a list of my favorite and most instructive books on the right side-bar. Take a look at them as you like. I read a lot (and have amassed a pretty vast library over the years) and hope my reviews/recommendation will help you find good sources of more weighty discussions on current (e.g., the credit crisis) or historical (such as the rise and fall of Drexel Burnham Lambert) areas of interest.
Please comment or email me (from my profile) as you like. I encourage discussion and engagement and look forward to your feedback.
